Vampire Physics is a game I have made in conjunction with Ozdy, this is the first time I have worked with him on a project. We met on Flash game license about 6 weeks ago after I had released Hambo. Me and Jules had actually sponsored Ozdy’s last game Purple Invaders through turbo nuke. The engine was quite nice and it had a pretty cool level editor and set of tools. Where the game fell down though was that it wasn’t that original, having obviously been based upon Red Remover, although the criticism that it was a copy was completely unjustified, that’s like saying and Tower defence game is a copy of Desktop Tower Defence. It was also let down in the art department, Ozdy had generally worked on games on his own since he started making them and art isn’t exactly his strong point.
Anyway he came to me with a similar remover concept involving Vampires, which after seeing 3 levels I thought would make a really nice game. So I basically went in and re-skinned all his artwork and did a lot of polishing, he mainly worked on the level editor making it more usable and quicker to make levels which I concentrated on level design, art and general polishing. We also employed Cathy McBurney again to help out on levels (she designed Toxers, Legend of the Golden Robot and lots of levels on Zombooka 2 level pack). The game from start to finish took around 6 weeks with several breaks during the process and we have been sponsored by Kongregate, the score at the time of writing is 3.69 which is a really decent score for the game which I am pretty pleased with.
We also as part of the deal did an optimised android version, I spent about a day turning all the vectors into bitmaps, changing the screen resolution and also making all the objects you click slightly bigger. It should be on the kongregate android app and runs amazingly well, I really didn’t think that flash would be able to cope with physics on mobile but with the optimisation work it pretty much matches the flash version on my HTC desire.
