Yay ! We finally finished Cyclomaniacs this week, been in production for 6 solid week since the end on June. A slightly strange one as it was originally meant to be a bike/puzzle game follow up to water werks. After the initial prototype Jules (Longanimals) knocked up it was clear that it was just great fun doing wheelies and somersaults so the game changed tack and we decided to make it more like a stunt race. It was also going to be motorbikes initially but I decided I wanted pedalling, just to create a bit of work for myself so we went for bikes rather than motorbikes.
It was probably the most fun game to work on as I didn’t do much artwork on the computer, I drew everything in pencil then scanned it in and just put it through vector magic, which created a really nice hand drawn look and also in my own cartoon style rather than being quite generic. We also decided at an early stage to just go with every crazy idea that we came up with. The end level is a skateboarding haddock chasing a clown, I have no idea why it just seemed like a goo thing to do at the time.
It was sponsored and launched on Kong a few days ago and they do seem to really have got into it, I know several players who have spent hours at a time which is really nice to see, I was pretty confident it was good as I found myself glued to it which making it, but you never really know until the game is released.
Anyway go and have a play of Cyclomaniacs.

Excellent post. You always know a game is good when the creator themselves is hooked on the game. I recently played this the other day and was instantly impressed by it. The artwork is indeed original and great, the methods you used definitely paid off. I love the randomness added to the game, it made it rather entertaining. Just checking out what bike another character was using was entertaining, small details like that really add up. The game’s actually featured on my site at the moment, and as you can see I’m rather picky about what I add at all, so kudos to you. Great work, hope to see more from you guys in the future.
I have been playing this game for ages, however not finished the game. The thing I like the most is that you can unlock different characters and the stunts you can do. This is the best game so far that you have made, however the music is a bit ‘false’ as it should be designed for the game better (hard to explain).
Thanks Tom, you always have the option to turn it off. Music is definitly personal choice, we have had several “where can I buy the music from” emails so some people love it.
We didn’t do that part, we just buy stock music.
Hey Rob,
Just writing to compliment and congratulate you on your wonderful artwork for the flash game “Cyclomaniacs.” It truly gave the game a highly distinctive feel as well as a unique, delightful character. I look forward to seeing more of your efforts in future.
Hi: Love this game. I play it so much that I overheat my computer, then it shuts down and I lose all my accomplishments. Is there a way to buy this game or download it, so that when my computer shuts down I don’t lose everything?
HEY, YEA REALLY LIKED THAT MUSIC CAN U TELL ME WHERE U BOUGHT THAT STOCK MUSIC SO I CAN GET IT…some times after playing ur game for hours (great idea to give the player some actual GOALS to accomplish) i just leave the game on pause so i can listen to the music and do my home work…lol….little gay, but eh…who cares. haha thanks man
Howdy Rob, I just wanted to say that I love this game! Nice one. Drew
