The Prehistoric Fairy Forest

fairy_forest.jpg
This image has been eating up all my spare time for the last 4 days. An interesting little project I was doing with a friend called Gen. We took a picture I had taken of some pebbles went away and did our own digital artwork taking something from the pebble image.

Mine turned into the prehistoric fairy forest, hers was an aliens version of mars. A most enjoyable waste of time.

Rendering Comparisons

I came across this highly interesting site yesterday, WinOSI. WinOSI is a free 3d renderer by Michael Granz, the results look pretty excellent but it does have very slow rendering times. The most interesting part of the site though is a comparison between all the different commercial and freeware renderers that use Global illumination. All the well known ones are there, Vray, Lightwave, Pov ray, Kray, Cinema 4d. He didn’t have a Mental Ray version so I cooked him one up (see above). The difference between results is staggering in both image quality and rendering times.
