Freeze

Another pencil sketch of a man and some random words. The idea is that when I have finished all 50 of these images, if you put them together they will form a story of some kind. However I am leaving the random things in my head to work out what the story will be.

I was thinking the other day which is actually quite a dangerous past time. Which artists work do I most admire, well one of my favourite comic book artist is Bill Sienkiewicz, mainly due to the fact that he takes risks. A lot of artists I look at these days just do one style or one format and don’t seem to try out new things. Most of their galleries will contain 50 paintings which are variations of the same thing. Bills work on Elektra Assassin is probably the most daring artwork in a comic I have seen, no particular style, even the characters look different between one panel and the next.

In some places it works and somtimes fails, whats most impressive is that he takes the risk and I always think you learn far more from failure that you do from success.

Having said that I have just drawn another picture in the same style I have done 20, doh !

Exploding laptop

Some creature illustrations I knocked up yesterday lunchtime in flash, trying out a slightly different style. People must like them as well as it was in the top 100 Interesting (see Flickr Explore)pictures on Flickr.

I got my first laptop from Dell a few days ago, have to say their customer service was excellent, took 3 days from ordering to delivery, works great, great price and also delivery turned up on time. This one has that wifi thing built in, which is really handy as this morning I am stuck in a hotel reception and am uploading this blog from a somewhere in the middle of no where just outside Oxford (Upper Heyford I think was the place).

I am on battery though which is cool as I haven’t checked if mine is an exploding variety. Actually if it isn’t I may ask for my money back, I quite fancy an explosion this morning to liven things up. Also this exploding battery thing kind of links in with the plane security yesterday. Dell has recalled 4.1 million batteries as there is a chance they can explode and on the same day the security at airports is relaxed to allow laptops on.

There’s some kind of irony there :)

what time is it ?

Back to the usual pencil people illustrations with digital backgrounds.

Recently the news has just been completely dominated by this airport fiasco with hand luggage. Last week they made everyone check in hand luggage due to security threats. Now I just don’t understand why they have relaxed the law to allow a small hand luggage (just conveniently laptop sized, for business passengers perhaps?). So last week you couldn’t take any on and this week they have decided that plane bombers will only use bombs which are slightly larger than a laptop. Who exactly comes up with the logic on this ?

Another of the recent inventions is “average speed cameras”, the theory is that these take your number plate then record the time to the next camera and work out the average, if its above 70mph you get a ticket. So how does that stop you breaking the speed limit ? My own personal tactic is to try and get up to at least 140mph which is twice the legal limit and then when you manage it just do 30mph until the next camera.
