Insect Trading Cards

insect_trading_cards.jpg

Finally got round to knocking out a few insect sketches as ATC’s. These are based on the sketches done last week for illustration friday and for these I bought some masking fluid to mask off the characters when I painted in the background. It was quite fun to use but completely killed one of of my paintbrushes. These are pen and watercolour, the highlights were done in gouache.

Completely off topic, can anyone tell me where exactly do birds go at nightime ? I have loads of sparrows and starlings that visit my garden every day yet around 7pm they vanish, also at this time of the year there are no leaves on any of the trees or bushes, so if they were in there you’d be able to see their outlines. hmmm… a mystery.

They draw up their plans for world birdseed domination….. their counterattack is to poo-bomb all humans in a giant bird-poo fest. If we don’t comply, they will poo bird flu onto us.

Start stocking up on birdseed and feeding the avian mafia, folks…..

My God, RJ, just ask a poet. He(she)’ll tell you that at night they fly up and roost among the stars, which is why the stars twinkle (from all the birds flitting back and forth among them).

Here in Texas the Grackles (long-tailed black birds) all go roost on the electrical wires around the local shopping mall. Have for years. Don’t ask me why. There they screech and squawk all night long, while dropping guano on everything below. A stinky mess, I’ll tell ya.

Personally I prefer the poet’s version.

    These are way too cool.

The mayfly looks a lot tougher than I’d expect them to be - in a ‘I’ll kick your ass’ kind of way.
