Sketch Book : Old Man in Office

Don’t know who this man is but he appeared in my sketch book. He looks rather sinister and perhaps a little sad.
I think that he’s an old American business man who leads a large corporation which he has run all his life. While drawing this I ate a crab and prawn sandwich, from the shop just next to Pizza Express in Coventry.

Maybe this somehow explains his expression, I wonder what would have happened if I had gone for my more usual beef and horseraddish, hurm….

Random Portraits : Alan as Eli Wallach

Completing the trio Alan from Pennsylvania, seen here as Eli Wallache from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
During the course of this painting I ate only egg and sausages, a tip I would pass on to any aspiring portrait painter.
Don’t add ketchup though it will ruin the composition.

Video Art : Atomic Elroy

I watched a program on TV about Bruce Nauman about 6 months ago. Bruce is an artist who mainly works in video. Before I watched the program I had seen some art video installations in modern galleries and have to say that I thought most of it was a load of rubbish. I just couldn’t see anything in it.

After watching the documentary on Nauman I completely changed my opinion and actually started looking at video art. The difference between Nauman’s work and art I had seen in galleries was that it was actually funny. Some of it hilariously funny. About 3 months after seeing the documentary on Nauman I bumped into Tom “Atomic Elroy” McElroy on the internet as we were both working independantly on the same project. Elroy’s work reminded me of the Nauman documentry and I really enjoyed watching his video’s. Some are thought provoking, others truly bonkers and also most are slightly comedic in some way. His latest work is entered into the Huffington Post Contagious festival and is worth a look.
