Racehorse Tycoon
Racehorse tycoon was a commission job from Mousebreaker I was involved in with Robbie Woodhead, we had done pretty well with Kebab van and Mousebreaker had licensed a copy from us. The then came to us with basically an outline concept for a horse racing game and we were to put that into a game format.
We deliberately kept the game quite simple as on these sim games its easy to get quite carried away with variables and come up with some insanely complex structure. On this you just had to choose your horse, jockey, food, transport, stables and trainer. Transport was a bit of a stupid on as it really doesnt have much of an effect on the race at all, probably should have been left out. The basic game just just plays every week the same, you can chnage any of the choices you have made, then choose a race and then see the form to place bets.
I was pretty pleased with how it turned out, although the artwork does look quite primitive in places, the i n game stuff still holds up and has real charm about it but the menus are realy quite basic looking at them now compared to my latest stuff.
The game is really quite random and even me and Robbie who came up with the algorithms cant get a great score, its actually a bit too close to real horse racing.
The game didnt do very well on score on newgrounds and Kong but the plays are just insane, its clocked over 20 million plays since release which is pretty stunning. Overall it was a really successful development.
