Cake Clix a slick Match 3 game, produced with Munsie Games. This really was a “game in a day” last month I did the art for, Dave Munsie of Munsie Games I have know for a while and he asked if I’d like to do a Match 3 game with him as he’d done several before, all fairly successful and had an engine which was pretty solid for building one round.
This was a slight departure for me as usually I draw most things as vectors or movieclips but Dave’s system used bitmaps for everything mainly for performance reasons, I still find that I prefer drawing artwork in flash to pretty much most other packages. You really can just use a wacom tablet and drawn straight in for this type of crisp cartoon artwork. I know some people tend to dislike vectors but I really think for this type of artwork they are ideal, have a broad appeal and most importantly if you intend to make the game actually profitable they are faster to draw that pretty much any other art medium. Well for me at least, I just don’t have the patience to do pixel art any more.
I’m pretty pleased with how the final game came out, it all looks really cohesive in the style of art and the game is a really nice 10 minute casual game which basically does what it says on the tin.
